Tooth Hygiene

Incorrect or insufficiently thorough cleaning of teeth is detrimental to the health of teeth and gums. Taking care of oral hygiene and regular visits to a dental hygienist ensure the beauty and health of one’s teeth. We undertake an important task of educating our patients about effective teeth cleaning, therefore, we invite them to participate in the program SOLO PROPHYLAXE developed by the German physician Ralph Petersen. This program offers an alternative to traditional tooth brushes, stressing the importance of cleaning between the teeth.

Can you clean shoes that are tightly placed next to each other? You will be able to clean these shoes partially; the sides of the shoes will remain uncleaned. Then why would you clean your teeth this way? Whereas the tooth surface next to gums and between the teeth is concave, cleaning teeth with a regular tooth brush leaves a part of a tooth uncleaned. Unlike a shoe, you cannot take a separate tooth and clean it from all sides. Typically, tooth cavities (caries) occur between teeth or in tooth fissures that are more difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to developing dental plaque. SOLO SWING single tuft toothbrush has a shape allowing for effective removal of bacteria from each tooth.

Approximately 95% of bacteria are formed between the teeth. The failure to clean these areas leads to tooth cavities, inflammation of gums, i.e. gingivitis, which if left untreated turns into periodontitis, a much more serious gum disease. To clean the areas between teeth, one can use a thread. However, because of the tooth anatomy, cleaning with a thread is not enough. The tooth surface between the teeth next to gums is concave, which is why using interdental brushes SOLO-STIX to get rid of bacteria in these spots is the best option. Gaps between the teeth can vary, so the size of interdental brushes is determined and matched by a dental hygienist.

It is recommended to see a dental hygienist twice a year. However, the number of visits can vary for different patients, and it has to be determined by the hygienist for each patient individually, taking into account the patient's oral hygiene status and oral care habits.  During the visit, the hygienist educates the patient on proper oral care routine and on the products that are best suited for the patient. Correct and thorough oral hygiene is the main condition of a healthy and beautiful smile.
